Sport at The Grove

At The Grove we firmly believe that sport has an important part to play in the physical and social development of all young people. We have some excellent teams, but sport is not just for those with exceptional ability.

All pupils have Physical Education/Games as part of the curriculum. However, outside of that time there is plenty of opportunity for pupils to try out new sports and every student must participate in at least one summer sport and one winter sport.

The Grove teams participate in the local schools leagues throughout the year.

In summer, Grades R – 3 have at least one lesson of swimming a week. In winter, Grade 2 students have 30 minutes Physical Education per week and Grade 1 have 30 minutes every other week. In addition, Grades 1-3 have a 45 minute games afternoon each week throughout the year.

All grade 4 to 7 students have a one hour lesson of Physical Education per week.

In all sports listed we play fixtures against other schools, as well as attending festivals and running inter house competitions.  We also hold a school sports day in the first term to which all parents are invited.

Alongside the school sport, we also have an extensive private extra mural programme including judo, tennis, ballet, hiphop and gymnastics. Students may choose to participate in these activities in addition to their chosen school sport.
